Families and Households In “Stay at Home” Mode

What does “stay at home” really involve?

A New Lifestyle for Families and Households

Here we are, it seems like a lifetime ago that our households were completely different.  What is this new lifestyle of “stay at home” for households?  For some of us being in the household is completely foreign and for some of us, it is completely natural.   This is a time of self-care for each of us, a time of creativity and growth.  Just as we put our energy into our work, offices, and co-workers, the same energy can be put into our households, families, and lifestyle.  It’s a great time for those “some-a-day” projects.

Managing a Household Is Like Managing a Business

The first suggestion that was given to me was “get up before the kids do, shower, get dressed and enjoy a cup of coffee.”  I found this suggestion real helpful and implemented it in my life as a household manager.  I incorporated walking and Yoga for my self-care.  Delegating chores and cooking is helpful for each family member to learn skills that empower them.   It’s a great way for everyone to discover what job they like to do.   The household needs love, care, and energy.  Households require supplies, cleaning, meals, financial organization, decorating, repairs, and landscaping.  It is a true gift for all members of the household to contribute and connect with their environment.

Outside Resources for Household Inspiration

In every job that I have ever worked in, there has been some type of enrichment program for the employees.  Our spirits need inspiration, rejuvenation, and rest.  Coping skills are just as important in our households as they are in our offices.  A resource that I have experience with is T. Harv Eker, https://www.harveker.com/.  One of my favorites is a class called “Mastering Happiness” that I found very useful and I can do at my home.  Zoom is a wonderful tool to use to connect with other family members and friends.  I am currently using it for Storytime with my granddaughter.  You can find Zoom at https://zoom.us/.  If you are in recovery or just needing a support group to connect with my favorite place for this is with In The Rooms, https://www.intherooms.com/home/ a place where you can meet “face to face” when in times like these, meetings are not available.

Taking care of our spirits is just as important as taking care of all of the other aspects of our lives.  Be safe at home.  Please feel free to reach out for a 30-minute consultation if you would like some support.
