Disney World?? A Great Family Vacation

Have you always wanted to take your family on a dream vacation?

Taking Care of Four Children and Myself

After my fourth baby was born I was feeling pretty exhausted.  I wasn’t planning any Disney World vacations in that moment. Complications after birth for both of us caused us both to lose quite a bit of sleep. We were both exhausted.  My baby had been in the ICU unit at the hospital for two weeks. All of the nurses loved him and walked him through the night when he was awake.  At home, I was not able to do this because I had three other children to tend to in the morning.  Any rest that we could get during the day was greatly appreciated.

The Question about a Disney World Vacation

It was a summer day and my three other children were playing outside with the neighborhood kids.  All three came storming in the door and one of them said: “when are we ever going to Disney World?”  I answered quickly to their surprise “we are going when he is five.”  I was referring to their brother; they all looked at me and said “okay” with surprised looks on their faces.  Of course, they went over to his bassinet and peered in to see if he was still sleeping. All three were satisfied with my answer and went back outside to play.

My Answer Out of No Where

I really don’t know where that answer came from, I just blurted it out.  We had never talked about going to Disney World in the past, we had no plans to go there. After having a baby, not sleeping, taking care of four kids every day and recovering from a damaged brachial plexus, Disney World just was not exactly on my radar.  However, it was a good goal and I did not forget that I promised my kids.

Keeping my Word with my Children

The year before my youngest was five, I started making plans for us to go.  We had been saving mileage plus points so that we could get airline tickets for the six of us.  We owned a timeshare property that I was able to trade for a nice resort in Orlando a year in advance.  Before, my youngest son’s fifth birthday we were on our way to Disney World!

We flew down to Orlando from Denver on United Airlines and stayed in a beautiful resort. It was really helpful to have pools right there where we could all relax after a day at Disney World. Disney World was probably our best vacation that we ever took as a family.

Other Vacation Options

I no longer own timeshare properties, however, I love the Vacation by Owner, http://www.vrbo.com  and Home Away options as a great choice to get away as a family.  I would love to hear how other families create vacation trips and memories.  Please leave your stories and comments below!
